Red Dead Redemption 2: Hints and Tips
Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally here, and with it, we have put together a detailed guide for all of the latest Red Dead Redemption Hints & Tips.
RDR 2 is available worldwide for Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The game is a western-themed action adventure, developed and published by Rockstar Games. The game features both single-player and online multiplayer options.
Red Dead Redemption is filled with systems, quests and mechanics to learn over multiple characters. Some things are straightforward, and other parts are not. If you would like to begin your journey with lots of money, a healthy horse and the knowledge to deal with every situation, then here are some quick tips and tricks to help you out:
1. Use Dead Eye for Hunting
Morgan’s slow-mode shooting skills are especially useful for when targeting smaller prey, for example; when hunting squirrels and foxes. Once you’ve upgraded Dead Eye, it will also show enemy vitals, and hitting a shot to either the heart or the head will usually result in an instant kill.
2. Set Up Toggle To Run
From the main controls menu you are given the option to switch to a more efficient system where you need only tap ‘a’ or ‘x’ a single time to start running – saving you unnecessary efforts continuously holding down the button.
3. Learn To Play Poker
Learn to play cards back at Dutch’s camp so that you don’t risk losing all of your hard-earned money whilst still learning the game. The maximum bet at the camp is only a single dollar, so all you can lose in a few games is a couple of cents, but playing is important in teaching you the fundamentals.
Note: there is also a useful set of poker rules hidden away in the help section of the pause menu.
4. Always Carry A Horse Revival Kit
In Red Dead Redemption 2, your horse is everything. If you don’t want to be forced into mercy killing your horse, make sure that you are always carrying a Horse Revival Kit. These kits can be purchased at any general store, and can be a life-saver (literally) if your horse gets hurt.
5. Don’t worry too much about money at the beginning of your adventure
Morgan is broke at the beginning of the game, and everything appears to be extremely expensive. Just keep playing the story missions consistently, and you’ll soon have extra money to start purchasing more advanced gear!
6. Play The Hero or Villain
Honor is the system in Red Dead Redemption to measure the social acceptability of Morgans actions. Some actions in the game are considered honorable, whereas others may be deemed dishonorable. Morgan’s ‘honor’ meter keeps track of whether he’s been good or bad, and moves up and down in accordance to your actions.
Shoot an innocent civilian or rob a stagecoach, and your honor might go down. Help someone out, and it goes up. Honor has little effect on the story, changing minor things like Morgan’s journal entries and his dreams.
7. Shotguns Are Your Best Friend
There are various weapons to choose from in Red Dead Redemption 2, but the Shotgun seems to be the most effective. The shotgun is able to take out most enemies in a single hit due to the extremely high damage power, assuming that you are fighting at close-range.
8. Upgrade Your Weapons Constantly
Don’t forget to upgrade your weapons. As you progress throughout the game, make sure to regularly visit the gunsmith for weapon enhancements.
9. Upgrade Dutch’s lodgings as early as possible
At your camp, head to the ledger next to the cash box and use it to upgrade Dutch’s lodgings. It will cost you a total of $220.
Doing this motivates the rest of your gang members to contribute more, taking some of the pressure off you. This means you have more time to take part in other activities, such as learning the game of poker. Upgrading the camp also improves your Honor ranking.
10. Get The Map For Faster Travel
After you have upgraded Dutch’s lodgings, you will discover a new upgrade: a map. This map costs $325 and allows you to travel faster from camp.
As there is lots of travelling in the game, this should save your time a little – though you do still have to travel into camp to fast travel. Or you could use a stagecoach, for a price. But anything that makes travelling across Red Dead Redemption 2’s huge map is welcome.
So that concludes are top 10 Red Dead Redemption hints and tips. We hope that you have taken something useful away, and we wish you the best of luck on your Red Dead Redemption adventure!
